My favorite time of year is just rolling in. I suffer through Winter, Cold wet Spring, and Hot muggy Summer for the delicious Autumn in New England. This week we have had cool evenings followed by warm, dry, sunny days, producing some gorgeous mists and fogs. Early this morning a friend and I went to scope out a marsh near by. We were hoping to get some nice thick mist, or even some fog, but, alas, no heavy mist, just some light wispy mist floating on top of the water and hovering just over the ground.
Once the sun cleared the nearby hills, the Golden Hour was, indeed, Golden! It was so peaceful in the marsh, listening to the fading crickets, the tap, tap, tap of woodpeckers, the chirping of the chickadees and other birds. No sounds of people, no phones, no cars, I was in heaven. What little mist there was rose as the temperature warmed up.
All too quickly, the mist was gone, the sun was out, and it was going to be a glorious day. The Swamp Maples are just starting to turn colors, the ragweed is in full bloom, the cat tails are blowing in the breeze and life is good in the Marsh.
